Synopsis
John Milton is a bad-ass. He’s broken out of hell and is being tracked down by ‘The Accountant’. Milton is on a revenge mission, to avenge the death of his daughter at the hands of a cult leader who’s also kidnapped Milton’s granddaughter.
The thing you need to understand about Drive Angry is it’s not serious. It’s a B-movie homage in the same way that films like Planet Terror, Machete and Hobo With a Shotgun are. Another thing all those movies have in common is a lack of box-office success. A lot of movie goers don’t get this type of comedy - Drive Angry is not a spoof movie in the same way that Scary Movie is for example. Whether it’s because the majority of audiences just don’t understand this type of humour or because it’s not their cup of tea or because it’s not obvious enough, this type of movie does not have commercial success. However, I do get it. There is just the right amount of over-acting by Nicolas Cage (which he obviously relishes), who is well cast; there’s an anti-hero revenge mission; American muscle cars; cheesey one liners; outrageous, ludicrous stunts; loud rock music; a ridiculously beautiful, scantily clad female lead; and the best, worst wig you’re likely to see on the big screen. It’s funny, very funny.
In short it's what Ghost Rider might look like if it was done ironically.
