Harry Potter smashes box office records

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has grossed more than $90m on it's first day's release in the U.S. That overtakes Twilight Saga: New Moon which previously held the record with $72m. Another Twilight Saga film, Eclipse previously held the record for midnight takings at $30m. That record has also been crushed with The Deathly Hallows Part 2 grossing $43.5m in midnight sales. Deadline is now also reporting that it could gross $180m for the weekend, an opening weekend record, surpassing the previous record of $158.4m set by The Dark Knight.
